COUNTY COMMISSIONERS NAME ROAD WHITLEY BOTTOM LANE

  

The Washington County Commissioners voted to name a private road at their meeting this (Tuesday) morning.  The road, off of Santee Lane in Precinct 1, will be named Whitley Bottom Lane.  Currently there are nine homes on the lane, and the county had run out of Santee Lane address for them.  The new Whitley Bottom Lane will remain a private road.

In other action, commissioners voted to award bids for a number of items, primarily used by the Road and Bridge Department.  They also awarded the fuel contract for the county: Bluebonnet Petroleum was awarded the bid for bulk delivery to Road and Bridge and WEX-Stripes was awarded the fleet fueling used by EMS, Sheriff’s, Constables, and other county departments.

Commissioners approved the purchase of a new squeeze chute for the Washington County Fairgrounds.  The new chute will allow quicker and safer tag in of cattle during the fair and shows.  The purchase of the $14,638 chute was made possible by a donation from the Washington County Beef and Forage Committee.  The county and the Fair Association each put $3750 towards the purchase.

In other action, the commissioners approved with minor changes the resolution for contracts for the rotation log for towing services for abandoned, impounded, junked, disabled and other non-consent tows.  They also approved a revised policy for placing utilities in county right of way.  The new policy recognizes changing standards for buried utilities.
