COUNTY COMMISSIONERS RECEIVE REPORTS TUESDAY

Convention and Visitors Bureau
Tourism Director Jenny Mills

Washington County Commissioners heard a number of reports during their meeting this (Tuesday) morning.  Convention and Visitors Bureau Tourism Director Jenny Mills presented the quarterly report on tourism in the county.  She explained that they have been concentrating on attracting large groups to the county and that the numbers indicate that tourism is coming back after dropping that past 2 years.

Director Kevin Deramus presented the monthly EMS report.  He noted that the 896 calls that EMS responded to in January was over 100 higher than January 2017.

Chief Deputy Jay Petrash presented the Sheriff’s Office monthly report.  He noted that there were only 2 burglaries reported in January and that this was an area they have been concentrating on.

Commissioners approved the purchase of two ½ ton extended cab trucks.  County Engineer Don Werth said that 5 bids were received that that Caldwell Country had that lowest bid of $21,545 per truck.  The trucks will replace two that are in use that have over 180,000 miles on them.

Commissioners also accepted a voluntary grant of .394 acres along Flewellen Road in Precinct 1.  The land owner moved their fence back and donated the strip on land along the road to improve the road drainage.

  1. Once again our county leadership continues to NOT shop local! It’s time to clean house in the courthouse. Do you think that every citizen that buys Brenham is always getting what they purchase for the cheapest price? No but it’s all about supporting the local economy. BUY BRENHAM. Come on Washington County leadership practice what you preach or be prepared to find a new job!
