COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO DISCUSS RAILROAD OFFER

Washington Co. Judge John Brieden

Washington County commissioners will consider an agreement with the railroad over damages to a county road when they meet Tuesday morning.

The commissioners court will consider an agreement with Burlington-Northern-Santa Fe Railway Co. to pay for repairs to roads they said were damaged by large trucks hauling rocks and heavy machinery needed to repair a railroad bridge.

The county is requesting payment for damage to county roads caused by large machinery used to repair a railroad bridge that was washed out be flooding last May on Old Gay Hill Road.

County Judge John Brieden says negotiations with BNSF have gone “as far as they’re going to go”, and the final figure is expected to be around $250,000.

Commissioners will also consider accepting two more grants from the Texas Division of Emergency Management to help pay for road repairs from the May 2016 flooding.

They will also discuss amending compensation for election judges and alternates, election clerks, election tabulator personnel and early voting ballot board and central counting station workers.

Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. in room 103 of the courthouse.
