COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO HAVE WORKSHOP ON INTERLOCAL AGREEMENTS

A resolution appears to be in the making for the nearly year-long discussions with the City of Brenham and Washington County or interlocal agreements.  When the Washington County Commissioners meet Tuesday they will hold a workshop about these interlocal agreements in preparation for a joint meeting with the Brenham City Council next week.

It was during a December 2012 workshop that County Judge John Brieden first proposed a major change in the interlocal agreements.  The Judge, with the support of the County Commissioners proposed they take full control of emergency communications, the county jail, and EMS, while the city take over full control of fire and rescue, the animal shelter, animal control and the Nancy Carol Roberts Library.  The Brenham City Council set next Monday, December 2nd, as the date for a joint City Council-County Commissioner meeting to resolve the lengthy dispute.

Washington County Judge John Brieden says he and the County Commissioners have been working on this resolution for nearly two years and says this will be a ‘great compromise’ and an ‘example of government working.’

In the revised agreement the County would take full control of the emergency communications system in 18 months in a transition period.   Judge Brieden says this will improve county services, mostly by making sure there is no duplication of services.

The Washington County Commissioners will be acting on the Texas County and District Retirement System when they meet Tuesday at the courthouse.  This is a plan that needs to be worked out for the year 2014.

The Commissioners are also preparing for the upcoming year when they set the holiday schedule for Washington County.

They will also act on approving a reappointment to the Hotel Occupancy Tax Board for a term that runs from January through December of 2015.

The Commissioners will also make an  appointment to the Washington County Historical Commission.

The Washington County Commissioners meet Tuesday morning at nine at the courthouse.
