COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TURN INSPECTIONS OVER TO THE STATE

A state inspector will begin doing health inspections for food service in the rural parts of Washington County and the city of Burton on March first after the County Commissioners revoked the rules for such inspections  at Tuesday’s meeting.

The idea came from County Environmental Director Mark Marzhan who told the Commissioners that with added regulations he would need an additional member on his staff.  Marzhan told the Commissioners that having the state take over the inspections will make them more efficient and less expensive.

The County will hand over these inspection duties on March first.

Also at Tuesday’s County Commissioners meeting, the County  opened bids for engineering services and program management services so the County would be eligible for a community block grant from the Texas Department of Agriculture.

The County Commissioners also grant the authority to the Washington County EMS to purchase a chassis for an ambulance.  EMS Director Kevin Deramus said putting the purchase in the hands of the EMS, save the county some $25,000.
