COUNTY LOOKING TO ACQUIRE FEDERAL SURPLUS ITEMS

Washington County Judge John Brieden says the sheriff’s office has a chance to garner surplus items from the federal government.

When the County Commissioners meet Tuesday they will authorize Sheriff Otto Hanak to take part in the Texas Surplus Property program.  Judge Brieden says the county has to meet a series of requirements and the sheriff needs to see if the surplus materials are worth it. The items include various office equipment, desks, chairs and cabinets. but Sheriff Hanak says they could also acquire weaponry, even armored vehicles.  The Sheriff says the county could get these items free of charge in this program but ther still could be costs to the county.

Judge Brieden says this is an ongoing program from the government.

The County Commissioners need to authorize Judge Brieden to sign the documents for this action.

The Washington County Commissioners meet Tuesday morning at nine at the courthouse.
