COUNTY SALES TAX REBATE DROPS–CITY’S RISES SLIGHTLY

  

The sales tax rebates for the past month showed a slight drop in Washington County, while the rebates were up for the cites of Brenham and Burton.

The Washington County sales tax rebate for August was $245,210, a 2 percent drop from last year’s payment of $250,279.

For the year, Washington County has received $1,808,616, up 7.7 percent from the same period last year ($1,679,864).

Brenham’s August rebate was $595,085, up 0.2 percent from last year’s $594,134.

The city’s payments for the year total $4,357,887, up 5.7 percent from 2016 ($4,122,469)

Burton’s sales tax rebates rose 200 percent due to a half-cent tax increase. The August payment totaled $11,819, up from $3,918, last year.

Burton’s year-to-date payments are $49,843, up 95.5 percent from last year ($25,488).

Payments to cities totaled $507 million, up 0.4 percent from last year. County payments were $46.6 million, up 8.6 percent.

These allocations are based on sales made in June by businesses that report tax monthly.
