COUNTY TO ADVERTISE LAND LEASE

The Washington County Commissioners began their search for a new lease holder on 8352 acres of land the county owns in Tom Green County at today’s (Monday’s) meeting.

County Judge John Brieden said they had to terminate a lease on the land near San Angelo and they needed someone to lease it to.  The land is for grazing and hunting but the County Judge told today’s(Monday’s) meeting that that they had worked with the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife and the Natural Resource Conservation Council on creating a lease agreement that would make sure the land was not overgrazed or over hunted.

Judge Brieden said Precinct Two County Commissioner Luther Hueske worked on coming up with the right agreement.

The bids would be opened on December 10th and a contract would be awarded a week later.

This is only a small portion of the land the county owns near San Angelo.  The county leases it out for several purposes and the proceeds are used to benefit the Brenham and Burton School Districts.
