COUNTY TO JOIN CITY IN MAKING FM-109 RAILROAD “QUIET ZONE”

Judge John Brieden

Washington County Commissioners have given preliminary approval to a joint venture with the City of Brenham in making the railroad crossing at FM-109 a “quiet zone”.

At their meeting this (Tuesday) morning the commissioners gave the go-ahead for a project that originally would have cost about $250,000 to complete.

However, as County Judge John Brieden explains, a recent accident resulted in the railroad replacing the costly controls which now meet the “quiet zone” requirements…

County Commissioners approved the joint venture with the city, TxDOT and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.

The project is expected to be completed in 6 to 7 months.

Also at their meeting, the commissioners recognized the Washington County Historical Commission.

For the 23rd consecutive year the Commission was commended with the state’s Distinguished Service Award.

Brieden said a lot of people put in a lot of hours to make the group so successful and expressed his pride in their accomplishments.
