CUBETTES BEAT BRYAN; FALL TO COLUMBUS
The Brenham Cubettes won one and lost one Tuesday night in a tri-match at the Bryan Viking Gymnasium.
In the opener, the Cubettes fell to Columbus, 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-21).
Hadley Webb had 12 kills and 14 digs; Kenna Mikolajczak has 12 kills, six digs and three blocks; Jordan Wellmann had 35 digs; Jordyn Williams blocked three shots and had nine kills; Kaci Pect dished out 21 assists and Kelly Jurden has 11 assists.
In match two, the Cubettes (7-4) downed Bryan, 3-1 (25-20, 26-24, 24-26, 25-20).
Hadley Webb had 27 kills and 16 digs; Kenna Mikolajczak made 13 kills and eight digs; Jordan Wellmann had 12 digs; Avery Schroeder had 15 digs and three service aces; Alli Crowson had four digs and three kills; Kaci Pect had 24 assists; while Kelly Jurden had 14 assists and seven digs.
In the third match of the night, Columbus defeated Bryan, 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-13).
The Cubettes will spend Thursday through Saturday at the 38th Annual Fraulein Volleyfest in New Braunfels, which year-in-and-year-out features one of the toughest fields in the state.
In Thursday’s pool play, the Cubettes will face, Smithson Valley at 1:00; Lake Travis at 2:00; and, Tascosa at 4:00.
Pool play will continue Friday, with bracket play scheduled for Saturday.
In Burton, Tuesday night, the 5th-ranked Iola Lady Bulldogs spoiled the Lady Panthers’ home opener.
Iola defeated Burton, 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-14, 25-7). Individual statistics were not available.
The Lady Panthers will host Navasota, Friday night. The JV’s will open play at 5:00 and the varsity at 6:00.
