CUBETTES-COUGARS PREPARE FOR AREA ROUND BATTLE

The Brenham Cubettes and College Station Lady Cougars will square off in the Area Round of the Region III/5A playoff, tonight and tomorrow.

Both teams enter the second round off convincing Bi-District wins.

The Cubettes (20-9/11-3) rolled past Leander Rouse, 10-0 and 16-2; while the Cougars (23-4/12-0) downed Whitehouse, 26-3 and 4-1.

The Cougars are paces by pitcher Hailey Hudson (18-1, 1.05 era, 168 strikeouts in 113 innings).  She will be opposed by Cubettes’ senior Meg Morris (19-7, 1.58 era, 133 strikeouts in 137 innings).

The Cubettes have supplied more runs this season, outscoring the Cougars, 199-162, and more than double the home runs, 25-11.  But the Cougars have hit .360 to the Cubettes’ .343.

College Station is led by Bri Warren (.475, 23 runs, 20 rbi), Hailey Hudson (.463, 13 rbi), Kaitlyn Francis (.451, 21 rbi), and Mia Rivers (.438, 19 runs, 12 rbi).

The Cubettes’ offense is led by Kelly Jurden (.417, 30 runs), Annie Cangelosi (.413, 28 runs, 29 rbi), Brette Kohring (.379, 22 runs, 15 rbi) Maddie Weatherly (.367, 18 runs, 25 rbi) and Kat Marshall (.375, 11 HR, 39 rbi).
