The Brenham Cubettes not only raised thousands of dollars for the fight against breast cancer Tuesday night, but they also won a crucial District 19/5A battle over Tomball Memorial.

The Cubettes (25-16/7-5) played inspired volleyball in defeating the Lady Wildcats (11-24/6-6), three-games-to-one, 25-22, 25-22, 21-25, 25-21.

The win keeps the Cubettes directly in the hunt for a playoff spot, with just two matches left in the 2014 season.

Junior outside hitter Hadley Webb recorded a double-double for the Cubettes, with 10 kills and 12 digs.  Ashley Homan added 8 kills, while Avery Schroeder had 10 digs.  Senior setter Kaci Pecht led the team in assists with 12, while Kelly Jurden added eight.

The Cubettes won the opening game with strong outside hitting and a run of six-straight points late in the game off the serve of sophomore Jordyn Williams.

The Cubettes defense came up strong in the second game thanks to key blocks from Webb, Kenna Mikolajczak and Keauna Bimmage.  Jurden also made a key run of five-straight service winners late in the game.

Memorial came back with a win in the third set, but the Cubettes responded with a solid victory in the fourth to take the match.  Homan, Webb, Mikolajczak and Gretchen West all made big hits down the stretch to pull away for the win, while Jordan Wellmann came off the bench to deliver several big serves.

In addition to securing a big win, the Cubettes also continued their support for the Side Out Foundation by raising money for the fight against breast cancer.

Thousands of tickets were sold for dozens of raffle prizes, including jewelry, gift cards, homemade pies, beauty products and college memorabilia, donated by former Cubette volleyball players.

The Cubettes continue their quest to clinch a playoff spot when they travel to Tomball for a Friday night matchup.  First serve is set for 6:00.
