CUBETTES DROP REGION SEMIFINAL OPENER
The Brenham Cubettes will need to stage a double-header sweep if they’re to keep their 2017 season alive.
Thursday night the Cubettes fell to Barbers Hill, 2-0 in the opener of their best-of-three Region Semifinal—despite out-hitting the Eagles 6-to-2.
One of the Eagles’ two hits was a two-run homer from the Eagles’ Rebecca Miller in the 3rd inning for the only runs either team would score on the night.
The Cubettes (24-11) were able to get runners in scoring position several times throughout the evening, but 13 strikeouts hampered their scoring efforts.
Meg Morris (23-8) pitched well enough to win on most nights, striking out eight Barbers Hill (33-3) batters and walking just two.
But winning pitcher Meagan King held the Cubettes off the scoreboard with a complete game shutout. King did not walk a batter.
Kelly Jurden was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles for the Cubettes, while Shae Harris had a triple and Annine Cangelosi doubled. Kat Marshall and Brette Kohring each added hits for the Cubettes.
Brenham must now sweep Friday’s double-header set for 6:00, back at the University of Houston.
