CUBETTES EARN TRI-DISTRICT TITLE WITH WIN OVER MAGNOLIA

The Brenham Cubettes pounded out 15 hits and got a strong pitching performance from Meg Morris en route to a 10-0 win over Magnolia in the District 20/5A finale.

The win clinches a three-way tie for the district championship between the Cubettes, Willis and Magnolia West.

Maddie Weatherly and Kelly Jurden each collected three hits for the Cubettes, while Kat Marshall added a two-run homer, her 11th of the year.

Brenham took the early lead when Savannah Bartay’s groundball out drove home Jurden.  The Cubettes added to the lead in the second, when Sally Cangelosi’s single plated Weatherly, who had doubled.

Brenham added three runs in the third, on two hits and a pair of Magnolia errors.

Meanwhile, Morris was shutting down the Magnolia batters, limiting the Bulldogs to just three hits, while striking out nine batters over six innings.

The Cubettes ended the game with four runs in the sixth inning, when they strung together six hits, including Marshall’s two-run homer.

The Cubettes (18-9) finish the district schedule 11-3.

The Cubettes, Willis and Magnolia West will set the playoff seedings with games next week.

Monday, the Cubettes will face Willis at 6:30 in Montgomery.  The losing team will be the #3 seed for the post-season.  The winner will advance to face Magnolia West Tuesday night to decide the #1 and #2 seeds.

The 7 senior members of the Cubettes were honored in a ceremony before the game.
