CUBETTES FALL IN FINAL NON-DISTRICT TUNE UP

The Brenham Cubettes (6-6) faltered in the fourth quarter, falling to a strong Waco LaVega team Monday night at Hearne.

The Lady Pirates (13-2) outscored Brenham, 15-4 in the fourth quarter to pull away to a 47-33 win.

Brenham, who trailed 24-18 at the half, had drawn to within three points (32-29) by the end of the third quarter.

The Cubettes proved to be their own worst enemy, committing 18 turnovers to just six for LaVega.  Brenham also hit just 2-of-10 free throws on the night.

Angel Darcus led the Cubettes in scoring with 12 points and 13 rebounds.  Teaira McCowan added 10 points and 23 rebounds, while blocking eight shots.

Erin Degrate led LaVega with 12 points and 14 rebounds, while Calveion Landrum added 10 points and 10 boards.

The Cubettes will open district play Friday night, when they travel to Tomball Memorial for a 6:30 game.
