CUBETTES’ RIDE ENDS AGAINST STATE CHAMPS

The Brenham Cubettes’ dream season came to an end Tuesday night at Hearne, as the Georgetown Lady Eagles’ defense proved too tough in a 55-37 win by the defending State Champions.

The Cubettes (29-4) jumped out to an early 11-6 lead after the first quarter, but the Georgetown defense dominated the rest of the first half leading the Lady Eagles to a 24-15 lead at intermission.

The Cubettes would get no closer in the second half at Georgetown slowly pulled away to the 18-point win.

Cubettes’ head Coach Chante’ Crutchfield says Georgetown is always a fundamentally sound team, “…at times it looked as if we weren’t prepared, but we were….as long as Rhoda (Farney) has been there they’ve been a sound program.  She’s one of the legends in the State of Texas.”

The win was number 1001 in the career of Coach Farney.

Junior post Teaira McCowan led the Cubettes 17 points and 17 rebounds.  She was the only Cubette to reach double-figures.

Haley Frias led the Lady Eagles with 19 points, while Charisma Alexander added 12.

The Cubettes will lose just one starter, Alencia Woodberry, for the 2014-15 season.

Georgetown advances to the Region Semifinals, Friday at Coleman Coliseum.  They will face Terry, who defeated Tomball, 60-57 in overtime.  The other semifinal will pit Montgomery against Friendswood.
