CUBETTES SEASON ENDS IN BI-DISTRICT

The Brenham Cubettes fought hard at the end, but couldn’t overcome the Georgetown Lady Eagles in the Region III/4A Bi-District playoffs, Tuesday night at Bryan High School.

The Lady Eagles (27-10) swept the Cubettes, three sets to none.

Brenham committed numerous unforced errors in the opening set, falling 25-12.

The Cubettes picked up the pace in the second set, cutting down on the errors and keeping it close before falling to the District 17/4A Champions, 25-19.

The third set was by far the most-competitive and well-played, as both teams played nearly error-free volleyball.

The lead seesawed back-and-forth with the Cubettes scoring four-straight points to take a late lead, 24-23 and serving for set point.  However, the Lady Eagles utilized senior strength up front to score four of the last five points and take the win, 27-25.

Cubettes head coach Debbie Yeager says the feeling after the match was a 180-degree difference that one year ago when Hutto ended the Cubettes’ season on the same floor.  “Last year we left with our heads down and were really disappointed in how poorly we played.  This year, while we’re disappointed in the result, we’re really excited about our future.”

“We’re losing just one senior (Au’Dresha Spates) and everyone else will be back.  I’m just so excited about this group of players over the next couple of years.”

“We had the same situation a few years ago with Bethany (Yeager) and Caroline (Young) and that group.  They had to work hard to get to the point where they eventually went to state.”

The Cubettes’ 2013 roster featured eight sophomores and three juniors.

Georgetown advances to the area playoffs to face Dayton.
