CUBETTES SET TO HOST DIG PINK TONIGHT

The Brenham Cubettes will not only faces a crucial district 19/5A battle tonight with Tomball Memorial, but they will also be helping to raise funds for the Side Out Foundation with their annual Dig Pink Night.

The Side Out Foundation raises funds for breast cancer research and awareness.

Cubettes head coach Debbie Yeager, appearing with Cubette players Monday night on the Brenham Sports Line, says a lot of people are involved in making Dig Pink such a successful night…

 

Raffles will be held and other fundraising activities for the Side Out Foundation.  Among the prizes will be college memorabilia from former Cubette players: Caroline Young, Scout Brooks, Kelsey Weynand, Jill Sykes, Bethany Yeager and former Brenham student Chandler Wellmann.

Many local businesses have also donated a number of valuable items.  The raffle prizes will be laid out on tables in the hallway outside the gymnasium throughout the day.

Over the past five years Brenham’s Dig Pink Night has raised more than $16,000 for the foundation.

Yeager says the hard work the players do to make the night successful speaks volumes to the character of the team…

       

Also on hand Tuesday night for Sports Line was Darcee Haveman, who lost her mother Deb Tackett to breast cancer.  Darcee says Dig Pink was always a big night for her mom and tonight will be very important for her…

        

Haveman urges all women to get a mammogram, saying that early detection is crucial in the battle against breast cancer.

The match between the Cubettes and Tomball Memorial also involves two teams that are battling for a spot in the playoffs.

Going into tonight’s matchup, both the Cubettes and Wildcats are 6-5 in district play—part of a three-way tie for fourth place.  Tomball leads the district at 10-1, while Magnolia and Magnolia West are tied for second at 7-4.  Then come the Cubettes, Wildcats and Stratford, all at 6-5.  The top four teams qualify for the postseason.

Tonight’s game is set for just after 6:00.  The game can be heard on KWHI and www.kwhi.com with the Sports Doc and David Yeager.
