CUBETTES TO HOST APOLLOS IN PLAYOFF OPENER

The Brenham Cubettes will get a rare home playoff game when they host Sharpstown in the Bi-District round of the Region III/5A basketball playoffs.

The Cubettes (24-7) will host the Apollos (8-10) Tuesday night at 6:30.  The game can be heard on KWHI and www.kwhi.com.

Brenham took the District 19/5A championship with a 13-1 record, while Sharpstown was 7-7 in 20/5A, good enough for fourth place.

The senior duo of Teaira McCowan and Angelica Darcus, both four year starters, have helped lead the Cubettes to the #22 ranking in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches 5A Poll.

The 6’7” McCowan leads the team in points per game (19.0) and rebounds per game (17.0).  McCowan has also blocked a total of 125 shots this year.

Darcus, who missed the season’s first six games is averaging 14.3 points per game.  Sophomore Alicia Jackson leads the team with 111 assists, 101 steals and is shooting 59% from the floor.

The Apollos are led by junior Jahogany Murry (16.3 ppg) and 6’3” sophomore Ogechi Nwodo (13.5 ppg).

The winner of Tuesday’s game will face A&M Consolidated, who beat Waco High School, 54-44 Monday night in Cameron.
