CUBETTES VOLLEYBALL FORCED INTO DISTRICT PLAYOFF
CUBETTES TO FACE TOMBALL FRIDAY NIGHT
The Brenham Cubettes volleyball team will have to win one more game if they’re to make the playoffs this season.
Tuesday night, the Cubettes (24-21/8-6) fell to Magnolia West, 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-12) to close out the regular season at Cubs Gymnasium.
Meanwhile, Tomball defeated Stratford, 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-21) to also finish 8-6 in 19/5A play.
The Cubettes and Lady Mustangs battled tooth-and-nail throughout game-one, repeatedly trading the lead before West pulled out the win, 25-23.
Game two started out much like game one, with the two teams batting back-and-forth before West went on a 5-0 run to take a seven-point lead and pick up the 25-18 win.
Earlier this season, the Cubettes had rallied from 2-0 down to the Lady Mustangs for a 3-set-to-2 win. But that would not be the case this time, as Magnolia West jumped out to a 9-2 lead and coasted to the 25-12 win and a three-game sweep.
Hadley Webb led the Cubettes with 13 kills and 23 digs.
Magnolia West clinched the outright District Championship and top playoff spot.
Tomball Memorial takes the runner up position (11-3) and Magnolia clinched the third-place spot with a 3-0 win over Waller.
That means the Cubettes will face Tomball for the fourth-and-final playoff berth with a district playoff game Friday night in Waller. The game is set for 6:00 and can be heard beginning with the pre-game show at 5:45 on KWHI and www.kwhi.com.
