Georgetown managed just one hit, but that was all it took for the Eagles to defeat the Brenham Cubs 1-0, Saturday and take the Bi-District playoff series, two games to none.

Austin Derkowski shut down the Eagles’ hitters until the fifth inning, when Hunter Sevarese managed the Eagles’ lone single, then scored on a Cub error.

Cub hitters fared no better, managing just two hits off winning pitcher Wesley Gafford: a second inning single by Chris Kubeczka and a fourth inning single from Rylan Heritage.

The Cubs threatened to get on the scoreboard several times, stranding runners on third base twice and twice on second base.

The Cubs season comes to an end with a 20-13 record and the team’s 35th consecutive trip to the playoffs.

Georgetown (27-7) advances to the Area Round of the playoffs against either Temple or Ennis.
