CUBS BEGIN PLAYOFF RUN TODAY

For the 33rd consecutive year, the Brenham Cubs are preparing for the playoffs.

The Cubs (19-7) open their 2017 post-season today with game-one of their best-of-three Bi-District series with Georgetown Eastview (13-14).

The Cubs are the #1 seed out of District 20/5A, having taken the title with a 12-2 mark.

The Patriots took the fourth-and-final playoff berth in 19/5A, edging out Hutto and Bastrop in a three-way battle for the spot.

The Cubs enter the playoffs with a trio of strong starting pitchers, including Chandler Jozwiak (7-1, 0.98 era, .086 WHIP and 77 k’s); Eric Wellmann (5-1, 1.59, 1.03, 41) and Dane Acker (4-0, 0.00, 0.69, 32).

Darvis Watson (.431) and Zach Marshall (.430) are the leading hitters for the Cubs entering the post-season.  Marshall has driven in 27 runs, tops on the team.

Hunter Avila has scored 18 runs to lead the team, while Acker has scored 17 times and driven in 18 runs.  Acker has hit three of the Cubs’ six home runs this season.

All games will be played at Mumford High School.  Game one is this afternoon at 4:00 (3:30 pre-game on KWHI and www.kwhi.com).

Game-2 and, if necessary, game-3 will be Saturday, beginning at 11:00.  Saturday’s broadcast will begin on the alternate stream on www.kwhi.com and then be joined in-progress on AM-1280 KWHI following the broadcast of the Maifest parade.7
