The first Democrat for State Representative has thrown his hat in the ring for the March 1 Democratic Primary.

Cecil Webster is vying for state representative of House District 13, which includes Austin, Burleson, Colorado, Fayette, Grimes, Lavaca, and Washington counties.

Webster is so far the only Democratic candidate filing for the position.

Incumbent Republican Leighton Schubert has announced he intends to run for re-election to the position.

Webster is a retired Army colonel living in Carmine.

He had an unsuccessful run for the same office during a special election in January.  He is counting on greater name recognition, increased voter emphasis on issues, and larger voter turnout during the upcoming election cycle to ensure victory.

Webster says that a victory will be evidenced by a more diverse, responsible, effective, and moral government, something Webster says does not now exist in the Texas Legislature, nor other state level offices.
