BRENHAM POLICE REMIND CITIZENS TO KEEP VEHICLES LOCKED

In light of some of the recent events in the news related to the hot weather, the Brenham Police Department would like to remind citizens to keep vehicles locked at all times while they are parked.

“There have been at least 2 incidents in the news recently, in Texas and Louisiana, where young children have gotten out of the house and into their parents unlocked vehicles, closed the door behind them, and have been unable to get out.  Their tragic deaths might have been prevented had the vehicles just been locked,” said Detective John Snowden.

“We know how quickly children can get themselves out of sight from their parents, and we absolutely do not want to see anything like this happen in our community, so we urge you to please use caution.  Also, if you do have young children, be sure to always check your back seat when going to or coming back from a destination to make sure no one is still sitting or sleeping in their car seat,” he said.

Police would also like to remind everyone to keep pets in mind during the excessive heat as well. Be sure they have plenty of water while outside and they should not be left in vehicles in parking lots.

“Things can happen too quickly where it is easy to lose track of time, and we don’t want to see anything happen to any of our four legged friends either.  In the event of any heat related emergency, you can always call 911 for assistance,” said Snowden.
