The Texas World Speedway in College Station, once called one of the fastest tracks in the world, could become a thing of the past and make way for a new housing subdivision.

The speedway was built in 1968, and was the site of many popular races but the number of races there has declined in recent years.  The speedway is also showing its age, with many saying there are lot of repairs to be made to the grandstands.

Developers are looking at the 553 acre site to possibly build a half a billion dollar subdivision.  The proposal is expected to come before the College Station Planning and Zoning Commission on March 27th.
