A $50,000 donation has been given to Texas Children’s Hospital in honor of a Brenham Leukemia survivor.  Riley Mika, a 7th grader at Brenham Jr. High, says that a friend of the family is donating the money in her honor.  Riley was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia when she was 3 years old and spent a large part of the next 2 years at Texas Children’s.  Riley says what she remembers most about that time are the people:

Riley is a healthy 12 year old now, and says plans to follow in the footsteps of her grandfather, Ben Seeker, and become a teacher.

The donation in Riley’s name will be matched by KTRK Channel 13 in Houston.  They were in Brenham to interview Riley and her mother Kari for a news feature.  On hand to accept the donation for Texas Children’s Hospital was Brena Baumann-Gonzalez.  She said the donation would go towards the hospital’s expansion, which is expected to be completed next year.

Riley Mika is interviewed by KTRK Channel 13.
