DRUG AND ALCOHOL AWARENESS PROGRAM COMES TO BLINN-BRYAN CAMPUS

Blinn College and two drug awareness agencies have come together to put on a student forum regarding alcohol and substance abuse.

Blinn College, the Community Alcohol Substance Awareness Partnership (CASAP) and the Prevention Resource Center (PRC), will host the forum February 22nd at noon in the college’s Bryan campus student center.

The featured speaker, Micki Baudoin, will provide her personal experience with addiction, its consequences, and recovery.

Baudoin’s engaging story, “A View from the Edge”, includes a transition from experimentation with drugs as a youth, to an addiction to methamphetamines and alcohol, arrest and felony conviction, to how she began her recovery and eventually became a licensed chemical dependency counselor.

For the past 15 years she has been employed by the very probation department where her sentence was served.  She is highly esteemed by those knowledgeable with the recovery community.  Ms. Baudoin currently serves as the Program Coordinator of the Brazos County Community Supervision and Corrections Department.

The Blinn/CASAP/PRC partnership targets the Blinn student populations in Bryan and Brenham in order to reduce alcohol-related issues such as under-age drinking, drinking and driving, binge drinking, as well as prevention of marijuana use and prescription pill abuse.  Its primary objectives are to improve the health and wellness of the college community and maximize a positive learning experience for students as they pursue their academic and professional future.

This event is designed to be the first in a series of presentations to be made during every semester.  This one will include a pizza lunch provided by the generous donations of CC Creations, La Hacienda Treatment Center and Sam’s Club of College Station.

Joining the CASAP Coalition in supporting this forum are the Sexual Assault Resource Center, Watch UR BAC/ Texas AgriLife Extension, Brazos Co. Health Dept., TAMU PD, Brazos Valley Injury Prevention Coalition// Texas AgriLife Extension, Strengthening Families of the Brazos Valley, Community Alcohol Responsibility & Education Coalition, TxDot, Third Day Treatment Center, Prevention Resource Center for Region VII, TAMU Health Promotion and Mothers against Drunk Driving.
