EIGHT PLEAD GUILTY TO FELONY OFFENSES IN 21ST DISTRICT COURT

  

Eight persons pleaded guilty to felony offenses and received terms ranging from probation to prison terms in the 21st Judicial District Court of Washington County, according to Julie Renken, District Attorney.

Judge Carson Campbell adjudicated the following cases:

Twenty-eight-year old Kenneth Brooks Helmer of Brenham, charged with Theft $1500-$20,000 from Elderly, from November 7, 2014, sentenced to Five years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, pay court cost, and $10,985 in restitution.

He was also charged with Evading Arrest/Detention Using Vehicle from March 22, 2014, sentenced to five years in the TDCJ, and ordered to pay court cost.

Helmer was also charged with Assault Family/House Member Impeded Breath/Circulation from January 23, 2014, and was sentenced to five years in the TDCJ and to pay court cost.

He was also charged with Evading Arrest/Detention with Previous Conviction from March 22, 2014, and was sentenced to 7 ½ months in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and to pay court cost.

 

Twenty-nine-year old Kenneth Earl Newsome, Jr. of Brenham, charged with Robbery from September 23, 2007.

Following a hearing, the defendant’s probation was revoked, and he was sentenced by the Court to five years in the TDCJ, ordered to pay $168 court-appointed attorney fee.

Twenty-year-old Zachary Dwayne Thomas of Brenham, charged with Sexual Assault from November 5, 2011. Thomas had his probation adjudicated, and was sentenced to three years in the TDCJ, fine $1000, court cost, $250 DNA fee, $50 Crime Stoppers fee, and a $140 lab fee.

Thomas was also charged with Burglary of a Building from February 1, 2012. He had his probation adjudicated, and was sentenced to two years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, fined $2000, court cost, and $100.36 restitution.

 

Sixty-two-year old Ben Vargas, of Wallis, was charged with Theft, Less than $1500 with Two Previous Convictions from July 18, 2013.

Vargas was sentenced to eight months in the Washington County Jail, and ordered to pay court cost.

He was also charged with Bail Jumping/Failure to Appear, from June 17, 2014, and was sentenced to two years in the TDCJ, probated two years, ordered to pay court cost, court appointed attorney fee, 80 hours community service restitution, drug/alcohol evaluation and treatment, and provide DMA sample and urinalysis.

 

Seventeen-year-old Adam Glenn Scott Rodgers, of Brenham, was charged with Theft $20,000-$100,000 from October 31, 2014, and was sentenced to ten years in the TDCJ, probated for ten years, court costs, $60,000 in restitution, 305 hours of community service restitution, drug/alcohol evaluation and treatment, court appointed attorney fee, and provide DNA and Urinalysis samples.

Rodgers was also charged with Forgery, from November 30, 2014, and was sentenced to two years in the TDCJ, probated for five years, pay his court appointed attorney fee, $743.83 restitution, $50 hot check fee, drug/alcohol evaluation and treatment and provide DNA and urinalysis samples.

He was also charged with Burglary of a Building, from October 13, 2014, and was sentenced to two years in the TDCJ, probated for five years, ordered to pay court-appointed attorney fee and $2399.32 in restitution.

Rogers was also charged with Burglary of a Building (3 cases) from November 1, 2014, November 3, 2014, and November 25, 2014, and was sentenced to 98 days in the Washington County Jail, and to pay court costs.

Twenty-three-year old Albert Royster, from Brenham, charged with Theft from Person, from November 22, 2014, and was sentenced to two years in the TDCJ, probated for five years, a $1500 fine, court costs, $50 Crime Stoppers fee, 200 hours of community service restitution, drug/alcohol evaluation and treatment, and provide DNA and urinalysis sample. 

24-year–old Audie Murphy Cooper II, of Bryan, charged with Theft $1500-$20,000 from October 31, 2012, and was sentenced to four years deferred adjudication probation, court costs, 160 hours of community service restitution, drug/alcohol evaluation and treatment, and provide DNA and urinalysis samples.

And 22-year old Cody Alexander Brown of Brenham, was charged with Assault Family/ Household Member with Previous Conviction from March 1, 2015, and was sentenced to three years in the TDCJ, and ordered to pay court cost.
