ERCOT URGES ELECTRICITY CONSERVATION

The operator of the electric grid that lights most of the state is appealing to customers to use less electricity because of the extreme cold.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas is asking Texans to reduce their electricity usage through noon today (Friday).  ERCOT also warned of an increased risk of rotating blackouts in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Central Texas and part of East Texas with sleet and freezing rain and drizzle in their forecasts. Many Central Texas school districts have canceled Friday classes, and the University of Texas at Austin has delayed classes until noon.
