WC Ladies Lions Club Meeting

The Washington County Ladies Lions Club will meet Mondays (2nd and 4th Mondays of the month) 12 Noon at the Cannery Kitchen.  The public is invited to attend, reservations are not required.

Newly forming Chapter of Christian Motorcyclists Association in Brenham, TX. CMA is an international, interdenominational, evangelistic motorcycle ministry whose vision is: “Changing the world, one heart at a time.” Worldwide ministry dedicated to reaching people for Christ in the highways and byways through the avenue of motorcycling. The Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library will close to the public at 7:00pm Thursday, April 14, 2014 and will reopen at 8:00am Monday, May 12th in its new location at City Hall, 200 W. Vulcan, Brenham, TX. The phone number will remain the same, 979 337-7201 as will the web address, cityofbrenham.org/library. Library materials may be returned to the existing book drop at 100 Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway until the relocation is complete on May 12th. At that time library materials should be returned to the new library location on Vulcan. Library services are being relocated to City Hall for a period of 12 – 18 months, so the City along with its private partner, the Fortnightly Club of Brenham can modernize the existing facility. During this relocation period, library services such as computer access, weekly children’s programming, and book access will be housed at City Hall. Special events such as opening and closing days of Summer Reading will be offered at Fireman’s Park Kitchen. Genealogy services will be offered through the Brenham Heritage Museum. With a Library card in good standing, patrons may access Tex Share databases and eBooks through the City’s Website

Fortnightly Book Donations – The Nancy Carol Roberts Library has temporarily moved its location to City Hall. They are not able to accept used books at the temporary location. Fortnightly Club member will be available to accept books at the Fortnightly Book House in Fireman’s Park on Mondays, 9:30-11:30am. The book drop room which is attached to the north side of the house will be open for donated books all the time beginning June 1st

Forever Young, the Senior Center’s Resale Shop is in need of donations. The shop accepts liens, clothing, household deco, furniture, etc. Donations can be dropped off at 702 East Alamo. If you have items to pick up, call the shop at 979 836-1430. Open Monday thru Friday, 10:00am-4:00pm. In conjunction with the shop being open on Saturday, 8:00am-3:00pm, they will host a monthly market mania in the parking lot (FREE VENDOR SPACES), 701East Commerce, Brenham. All proceeds from the Senior Center resale shop help provide lunches for homebound senior citizens throughout Washington County.  For more information, call the Senior Center at 979 836-6552. The shop will be open every Saturday in August 2014, 9:00am-3:00pm!

CARS- Children Are Really Special -  is a reading intervention program for students at Alton Elementary (277-3490), Brenham Elementary (277.3885), and Krause Elementary Schools (277.3866).  As a CARS mentor, you will work one-on-one with a child who needs your help in becoming a better reader.  Sessions are Monday thru Friday

Hospice Boutique is looking for groups, organizations or even individuals that might be willing to organize a clothing drive to help bring in items for resale.  The boutique accepts gently-worn ladies clothing, shoes, purses, hats, etc. Sales at the boutique benefit the  patients served by Hospice Brazos Valley in Austin, Washington, Burleson, Brazos and surrounding counties.  Call 979 277.9525 for more information.
