EXCHANGE OF SERVICES WORKSHOP

Brenham City Manager Terry Roberts says the City Council will begin considering a transition period for a major portion of the exchange of services interlocal agreement with Washington County.

The Washington County Commissioners want total control of cost and operations of the emergency communications system, while the city of Brenham would take control of fire and rescue.   Roberts says the Council will hold a workshop session beginning at 11am Thursday to discuss  a transition period in which the city and county will continue to operate the communications system for 18 months beginning January first..

Roberts says the communications workers would continue to be city employees during the transition period.

The Washington County Commissioners began proposing the exchange of services for almost a year.  The Commissioners want total control of the cost and operations of the county jail, communications, and the EMS while giving the city total control of cost and operations of the Animal Shelter, animal control, fire and rescue and the Nancy Carol Roberts Library.

The City Council is also expected to go into executive session during Thursday’s meeting, about land for future park use in the city.  Roberts says he cannot talk too much about it because so many details have yet to be worked out.  He would say a donor wants to give some land to the city for park use.

The Brenham City Council will go into their workshop session at 11am,  then go into regular session at 1pm, at city hall.
