FAITH MISSION TO HOST ELITE GROUP OF CHINESE EXCHANGE STUDENTS

A group of exchange students from China will get a taste of life in Brenham this weekend- both literally and figuratively.

Faith Mission in Brenham will host a luncheon for the students at the Cannery Kitchen in Brenham from 11:30 to 12:30 Saturday. Rev. Randy Wells of Faith Mission says they will be serving barbeque and Blue Bell ice cream so the students can experience some of what Brenham has to offer.

The students are part on an exchange program put on by Prairie View A&M University’s Confucius Institute.

Dr. James A. Wilson Jr. is the associate provost for academic affairs and the director of the Honors Program at Prairie View A&M University. In this capacity, Wilson has sent a total of 107 students to China, specifically to Xi’an International Studies University. In return, the University sent over a group of 20 students to experience life in the United States.

While the group has been travelling to a variety of locations within Texas during their stay, Dr. Wilson said he wanted them to experience an authentic rural community:

The students were chosen to be a part of the program through a vigorous selection process. “The campus in China has over 30,000 students, so these individuals are the best of the best” said Wilson.

Rev. Wells says Faith Mission is looking forward to hosting the group.

“We are so honored to have these students here” said Wells. “We just want to give them a true Washington County welcome.”
