FAST START LEADS MONTGOMERY OVER CUBETTES

A grand slam by Cheyanne Trader keyed a seven-run first-inning and led Montgomery to an 11-0 win over the Brenham Cubettes, Friday night.

Trader’s two-out homer was followed by two Cubette errors, a walk and a two-run single by Bailey Watson, giving the Lady Bears (22-5/12-1) a 7-0 lead.

The score remained that way until the bottom of the fourth inning, when Montgomery put four more runs on the board.

The Lady Bears got an rbi-double from Carly Holder and an rbi-triple from Maloree Schurr.

The Cubettes’ (10-13/3-9) defense struggled, with each of the team’s starting infielders committing an error, leading to nine unearned runs.

Meanwhile, the Brenham bats managed just four singles off winning pitcher Taylor Skinner.

The Cubette hits came from Kellie Jurden, Maddie Hooks, Macie Becker and Shannon Loukanis.

The Cubettes will travel to Bryan, Tuesday night to face Rudder.  The game was originally scheduled for Alumni Field, but was switched after Rudder had to play in Brenham earlier this season due to wet field conditions.

In other 18/4A games:  Magnolia 7   Magnolia West 3;  Huntsville 12   Caney Creek 3;  Waller 4   Rudder 1.
