FAYETTE CO. DEPUTIES MAKE TWO MAJOR COKE BUSTS

Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies report two more major drug busts along I-10.

Monday morning, Investigator David Smith stopped a pickup for a traffic violation.  Conflicting stories led Smith to believe the vehicle was transporting illegal narcotics.

A search of the vehicle turned up approximately 67 kilos of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $6.7 million.  The cocaine was discovered under and behind the rear seat of the vehicle.

The driver, 66-year old Mauro Bustamante was arrested for felony drug possession and booked in at the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.

Lobos led Thumann to the discovery of 41 kilos of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $4.1 million dollars, hidden in compartments throughout the vehicle.

The driver, 44-year Sergio Gonzalez of Mexico was arrested for felony drug possession and booked into the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.

  1. I’m curious to know what, if any, sentences all these drug runners arrested in Fayette county get. So much so that I went back, 6 to 12 months, and picked a few names to research. Needles to say, I was a bit surprised to find nothing. Of the four names I picked, two American citizens, and two Mexican citizens, all were released within a few days of their arrest, and that was it. I would think 6-12 months would be enough time for at least a court date. Just saying.
