FAYETTE COUNTY DEPUTIES ASSIST WITH SUICIDAL PERSON

  

Fayette County Chief Deputy Randy Noviskie reports a traffic accident on August 31 resulted in a several hour standoff with a suicidal person, and serveral area agencies assisting to bringing the incident to an end.

Chief Noviskie reports that at approximately 4:00pm, Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call of a traffic accident on FM 153 in Winchester near the County Line.  Citizen reports of the driver making threats to harm himself prompted a response from numerous officers including State Trooper Greg Trojacek and Deputy Garrett Durrenberger.

Upon arrival the subject could not be located, but Officers were finally able to locate the male subject in a brush thicket in the nearby creek.  The male was wielding a knife and was threatening to harm himself.  As additional officers arrived the situation turned into a standoff with the male continuing to make threats of harm to himself.

It was not until; Sheriff Keith Korenek and a Mental Health Negotiator arrived and began conversing with the subject that his demeanor began to sway.

Finally after several hours, the male subject surrendered the knife and he was then taken into protective custody.

The male was then transported to St. Mark’s Hospital for medical and mental evaluation.
