FAYETTE COUNTY DEPUTY ARREST ONE IN DRUG BUST

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Thursday, June 25th, a Waco man was arrested for attempting to transport illegal drugs through Fayette County.

Deputy David Smith was on patrol on Interstate 10 near Engle and stopped a 2003 Chevy pickup for a traffic violation.  Smith made contact with the driver who claimed to have been distracted due to personal issues which caused him to tailgate the 18 wheeler he was following.

Smith noticed the driver was more nervous than normal and felt he was being deceptive and evasive in his conversation. Smith noticed several criminal indicators on the vehicle which led him to suspect the vehicle to be carrying contraband.

After acquiring permission to search the vehicle, Smith noticed the external fuel tank and tool box were loose and not properly attached.  Closer inspection revealed the fuel tank had a false compartment and a search of this compartment revealed twenty wrapped bundles of marijuana.

The drive, forty-three year old Michael Shane Donnell of Waco, was arrested for possessing over 100 pounds of marijuana and the vehicle was seized along with $541 in US currency.
