FDA SAYS LISTERIA CAME FROM SUPPLIER IN LAST BLUEBELL RECALL

Federal inspectors have confirmed that listeria found in Blue Bell’s latest recall originated from a third party supplier.

According to the Houston Chronicle, the Food and Drug Administration issued the supplier- Iowa-based Aspen Hills- a warning letter last month that outlined the company’s failures to properly safeguard products from contamination.

The latest recall was issued in October 2016, after Aspen Hills said cookie dough products could have come in contact with Listeria monocytogenes.

Blue Bell used the product to make its Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Cookie Two Step flavors. As a result, the ice cream giant recalled batches of those products produced in its Alabama plant.

The Food and Drug Administration says they found Listeria monocytogenes in four areas of the Aspen Hills plant. The company itself identified the pathogen in 10 areas, as well as one finished batch of cookie dough that was not distributed to customers.
