The amount of a federal grant for a Workforce and Technical Training Center in Brenham will be announced Monday morning.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development, Jay Williams, will announce a major grant for workforce training and job creation in Brenham at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Blinn College’s A.W. Hodde Jr. Technical Education Center.

The Economic Development Foundation of Brenham earlier applied for $1,350,000 through the Federal Economic Development Assistance Cooperative Agreement Grant Program.

The Foundation sought the grant after a slew of local layoffs in which hundreds of workers lost their jobs.

The city of Brenham/Brenham Community Development Corporation, Washington County, Economic Development Foundation and Blinn College all agreed to participate in funding for a local “match” that would be needed if the grant is awarded.

After the grant announcement, Williams will participate in a round table discussion with local elected officials and business leaders.

  1. This is most welcome news and much appreciated by the long time supporters of the need for techical workforce education at Blinn. Many thousands of young men and women will receive education that will net them successful careers. Please let us, and our local state and federal representatives recognize our President and loyal supporters for their continuing struggle for the education of our youth and re-educating this nations workforce. May the praise be as forceful as the continous criticism we normally hear.
