FEMA spokeswoman Rita Egan said Monday that 3,556 claims have been received so far, and the disbursments include rental assistance and emergency repairs to homes.

Washington County was among 19 Texas counties declared disaster areas, making property owners eligible for grants and low-interest loans.

The local FEMA recovery center at the commercial exhibits building at the county fairgrounds, will close at 6 p.m. Thursday.

FEMA officials continue to stress that property owners with damages must register with that agency.
