FIELD NARROWS FOR SPECIAL ELECTION

The number of candidates in the Special Election for State Representative of District 13 is dwindling.

Five candidates, four Republicans and one Democrat filed to be on the ballot for the Saturday, May 5th Special Election for the District 13 seat.  Following this week’s Primary Election, two of the Republicans have withdrawn their names.  Marc S. Young of Sealy and David K. Stall of Fayetteville have both withdrawn from the race.  That leaves Democrat Cecil Ray Webster Sr. of Carmine, along with Republicans Jill Wolfskill of Bellville and Ben Leman of Iola in the race to fill the rest of Leighton Schubert’s term as State Representative.  Early voting runs April 23rd through May 1st.  The winner will serve in that position through December 31st.

Wolfskill and Leman are also involved in a runoff election to be the Republican candidate on the November General Election ballot.  That Runoff Election is set for Tuesday, May 22nd.  There is also the possibility that there could be a runoff in the Special Election, should no candidate garner more than 50 percent of the vote.  District 13 encompasses Washington, Austin, Burleson, Colorado, Fayette, Grimes and Lavaca counties.
