FIRE AND ICE COOK-OFF HAPPENING IN INDEPENDENCE

  

The Fire and Ice Cook-Off is happening this weekend in Independence.

Independence Community Events is holding the competition Friday and Saturday at the historic school house.

Friday night will feature steak shoot out and margarita competitions at 8 p.m.

The winner of the steak shoot out will win a $1,000 cash prize, donated by Diesel Innovations Truck and Trailer Repair. Second place will by $500 and 3rd place will win $250.

Saturday’s festivities kick off at 10 a.m. with the Chef’s Choice and beans cook-off. The chicken competition will take place at 12 p.m., followed by pork ribs at 2 p.m. and brisket at 4 p.m.

Awards will be presented at 6 p.m.

Jordan Clay, an organizer of Independence Community Events (ICE), says the ICE aims to preserve the township of Independence through fundraisers, events, and gatherings.

“All the money raised through this competition will go to restoring the old Independence schoolhouse” says Clay. “Independence Community Events purchased the property and have been working to restore it.”
