FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDS TO COUNTY JAIL FOR STRUCTURE FIRE

On Tuesday morning a little after midnight, the Brenham Fire Department was dispatched to 1206 Old Independence Road to the Washington County Jail for a structure fire.

BFD responders found towels burning inside a natural gas, commercial dryer located in a laundry room inside the facility. The fire sprinkler system activated and kept the fire confined to the dryer. One hand line was used to extinguish the burning material inside the dryer. Portable fans along with the building's smoke evacuation system cleared smoke from the building.

The fire sprinkler system was restored to service.

Jail personnel and inmates cleaned up water and burnt materials from the laundry room.

There was heavy fire damage to the dryer that was on fire and heat damage to a second dryer in the room along with smoke and water damage to all contents of the laundry room.

The fire started from an accumulation of lint inside the dryer.

On Monday around 10:08pm, The Brenham Fire Department was dispatched to 1702 Dempsey St for a gas odor in a residence.

BFD investigated the gas odor and came to the conclusion that the kitchen stove was the cause of the odor. BFD closed the stove’s gas supply valve to eliminate the hazard of leaking gas until the stove could be serviced or replaced.
