FISHING/HUNTING CHANGES UPCOMING IN SOME AREAS

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission adopted a number of changes to this year’s hunting and fishing regulations.

Beginning this fall, there will be an early opening for dove season in the South Zone.  The general dove season will open in the South Zone, September 14, the earliest starting date since 1950.  Washington Co. and the surrounding area is in the North Zone.

Hunting changes also include: experimental mule deer antler restrictions; an increase in the northner pintail bag limit to two, and an one week reduction in the spring 2019 Eastern Turkey season in 13 counties.

Among the fishing changes, is a change from 14- to 24-inch slot length limit to a 16- to 24-inch slot length limit, for two area reservoirs: Fayette Co. and Gibbons Creek in Grimes County.

The daily bag limit will remain at five fish (limit of only one bass 24 inches or larger).

The changes to the 2018-19 Statewide Recreational and Commercial Fishing regulations take effect on September 1st.
