FORMER CUB HOFFMAN TAKEN BY THE TIGERS IN MLB DRAFT

Former Brenham Cub baseball standout Theodore Hoffman has been selected in Major League Baseball’s player draft.

Hoffman was taken in the 15th round, 455th overall, by the Detroit Tigers.

This past season Hoffman, an outfielder at Texas State, hit. .349 with 16 doubles, 16 home runs, scored 52 runs and had 56 runs batted in.  Hoffman also had an on-base percentage of .406.

Hoffman was selected First Team All-Sun Belt.  He led the league in hits (87), was fourth in the conference in hitting, third in runs scored and rbi’s, second in home runs, and led the conference in slugging percentage (.614).

Hoffman was first-team All-State his senior year (2014) at Brenham High School, hitting .433 with 18 doubles, 8 home runs, and scoring 39 runs with 42 runs batted in.

Cubs head coach Lanny Williams was beaming with pride over his former player, "Ted has incredible values on and off he field.  Detroit got a steal in the 15th round."

"I'm very happy and proud of Ted.  I can't say enough good things about him," said Williams.

Hoffman has until July 15 to decide whether or not he'll forego his senior season and join the Tigers' organization.
