FORMER LITTLE LEAGUE ADMINISTRATOR SENTENCED

A former head of District 13 Little League has been ordered to pay $50,000 in restitution after pleading guilty to charges that she stole the money from the league.

Ginger Barrett
(Austin Co. Jail)

41-year old Ginger Barrett of Bellville pleaded guilty to two counts of theft.

Barrett was the administrator for the district, which includes Washington County Little League, when she was accused of stealing league funds over a four-year period.  .

The Bellville Police Department began an investigation after Bellville Little League board members expressed concerns about missing funds.

In a plea bargain agreement, Barrett had to pay the $50,000 immediately, which was divided among the Little League teams in the district. She was also placed Barrett on 10 years’ probation.

District Judge Jeff Steinhauser also ordered her to serve 30 days in the Austin County jail. Barrett surrendered to authorities last Thursday to begin that term.

In addition, Steinhauser ordered Barrett to write a letter of apology to Little League sponsors and also attend a board meeting of each District 13 team to apologize in person.

  1. The most obvious point was totally missed. So you wonder why one gets a slap on the wrist, while someone else gets a big sentence for the same crime? The answer is how good is your lawyer and what influence on the judge does the attorney have? Unfortunately, those who can’t afford an attorney, or a good one, usually get the big sentence. It’s always been this way!

  2. This is unacceptable!!!! A simple slap on the hand! She stole from our children!
What’s the point of having little league fund raisers if it is going to be allowed that an indidual has access to the money & isn’t accountable ? What I don’t understand is why wasn’t this questioned sooner by the board of directors? They weren’t doing their job. Sad, sad, sad. The justice system sucks. She must have had one heck of an attorney.

  3. This is a hefty theft & it was not a wealthy corporation, nor was their just a small number of people effected by this theft!! This woman knew exactly what she was doing & will most probably do it again or instruct someone else in how to do this. This carries a heavy sentence in prison, so why is it that judges have the right to pick & choose who gets sentenced to prison on these types of charges & who does not?? These kids suffered these losses. I am at wits end over courts of today in our systems & these judges who think they have the power to be extremely lenient or exhuberantly overly powerful dictating what they wish with the rights & wrongs of people. How do we get what we pay for with our tax dollars & what we voted for in these positions of judges & courts & get the laws enforced?? It’s time people we start protesting & making sure that we make these people sitting in these courts abide by the laws & sentence accordingly. This is barely a slap on the wrist as Lou Gehrig said. All the people affiliated with Little Leagues, Select Leagues, Minor Leagues & Major Leagues all should rise up for the protection of these kids. Afterall, how else are some of these people taking advantage of these children & their parents?? This sentence is humiliating to these children, their parents & their communities, and all the other Leagues in baseball & baseball itself. Little League is the very root of this entire billions of dollar industry of baseball. And baseball is considered “The American Sport,” so it also represents our country on the world stage level. Disgusting, & people go to jail fir not paying a $50.00 traffic ticket!!! Shameful…we need to fix this. Something is wrong with this system!!

    1. It was a plea bargain, so shouldn’t you be upset with the DA, not the judge? And in either case, vote differently if you don’t like the current judicial members.
