FORMER SHERIFF GOLDBERG DIES

  

Funeral services will be held Saturday for former Washington County Sheriff Elwood Goldberg.

Goldberg, who served as Washington County sheriff for nine years, from 1976-to-1985 died Wednesday.

Goldberg joined the Brenham Police Department as a patrolman in December of 1964, then joined the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in February of 1967.

After the retirement of then Sheriff Johnie Schulte in 1976, Goldberg was elected sheriff.

Goldberg resigned in 1985.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

Goldberg was 85.

  1. Elwood Goldberg was a great Sheriff and a great man. I don’t know how many times he would talk to you and give you a second chance rather than lock you up and throw away the key. But, back then, we knew better than to mess up a second time because we knew we would be not only in trouble with him, but also with our parents because Elwood knew them too. Brenham has lost another good person this week. May he Rest in Peace.

    1. I agree county resident. I really liked Mr Goldberg and thought he did a great job as Sheriff.
