FORMER VET CHARGED WITH D.W.I.

The former Brenham veterinarian who became the center of a storm of controversy after she shot and killed a cat with an arrow was reportedly charged with drunk driving several months ago in Houston.

KHOU in Houston is reporting that Police say a car driven by Kristen Lindsey nearly hit an off-duty Precinct 5 deputy on I-10 back in March. The deputy called in a report of an erratic driver.

A Houston police officer stopped Lindsey on the South Loop at Stella Link.

The officer say she was found to be impaired, arrested and charged with DWI.

Lindsey was fired from her job in Brenham last year after she posted a photo of the dead cat and bragged about killing it on Facebook.

Lindsey said she believed the cat was feral, but a family claims it was their pet.

An Austin County Grand Jury said it did not have enough evidence to charge Lindsey with a crime.

She is in the midst of a fight to keep her veterinarian’s license.

  1. Mac you are wrong. The law says any nuisance animals can be killed on your property in Washington county. Bows and crossbows are used year round legally for hogs and whatever. Bows on deer during deer bow season only.

  2. Right on ” No more breaks”. Children who never take responsibility for their actions will unfortunately, continue to break rules or laws, as seems to be the case here. She is keeping herself in the news with repeated attempts to return her license and more poor choices. Does she even hold down a real job, or is the same money that pays for the team of lawyers support her while she drives drunk?? Best route for her would be to get a position volunteering in animal shelters, or work for free providing free spays and neuters in places like Animal Friends. 5 years of service and humility could do some good.

  3. We all know that THIS DWI would NOT have made the news, had it not been for the previous incident, especially since this occurred “back in March”. My guess is that someone just NOW found out about it, and decided to MAKE NEWS out of it. Schadenfreude at work, at its best, and WORST.

  4. Very sad that that any of this transpired as a result of eliminating a stray cat. Somewhere there are statistics showing how the stray cats impact the bird population, baby foxes and rabbits, my game cameras catch pictures of stray cats carrying small bunnies away at night in my woods on my property. I keep the eco system in balance by eliminating most of them my self…Shame belongs on the people that drop their unwanted animals off in the country, and the the ones that don’t get them fixed.

  5. She was drunk and she almost hit someone. She has brought the publicity on herself. She needs to clean up her act!

    1. No excuse for driving drunk BUT the media and self righteous people have done enough to this poor lady, leave her alone. I LOVE cats but to ruin someone’s life over it is stupid, it wasn’t a person. This happened in March not last week so why is it just being released? I’m not a drinker BUT I don’t blame her for this I BLAME THE MEDIA AND THE PEOPLE THAT CAN’T FORGIVE, God forbid you all make a mistake in your life’s. There are so many people in this town that think they are above and better then everyone else and two faced but you all put your pants on the same way. Let it go people and media, leave her alone. Let her correct her mistakes and get on with her life just like all of you have done with your mistakes in life

      1. Just for a point of reference, cruelty to animals carries a $1,000 fine (at least) and up to two years in jail. It’s also ILLEGAL to kill an animal with a bow and arrow, I believe even deer unless it’s bow season.

That’s why many people are so up in arms with Lindsey – it is actually a severe penalty.

Personally, I am of the opinion to let it all go and let the Veterinary Board determine if she is to remove her license or not (it’s under review and been delayed for final statements).

I believe however part of the reason this is still in the news here because her actions could’ve affected the clinic she worked at here. I know some of the more virulent folks out there tried to get the place shut down and financially ruined because of her actions, making false claims about them as well.

      2. The media wasn’t pooring drinks down her throat and then forced her to drive. It was her choice and hers alone.

  6. So….this is news NOW? It happened in March but somehow it’s relevant to report now? And it didn’t even happen in Washington County. And if it had been anyone else it probably would’ve never been reported at all. But because it’s “that vet who shot the cat” the story somehow takes on a greater importance? Give the girl a break. She seems to be making a big enough mess of her life without being drug through the press so that everyone one else can laugh and gloat.

      1. It is the prerogative of kwhi to report on any stories they desire. On the topic of giving the girl a break- I think she has had plenty of ‘breaks’. At what point does she become soley and totally responsible for her actions? There are some mistakes that will irrevocably change the course of your life and the consequences are severe. When she chose to shoot that cat, she made a life changing decision. That doesn’t mean she couldn’t have picked up the pieces and went on to have a great life. Instead of moving on she is on a downward spiral.

        1. Maybe giving her break was the wrong choice of words. I don’t agree with her actions to get behind the wheel after drinking too much. She should be held accountable for that and I think she will. I don’t think she deserves any lieniency from the criminal justice system. However, as I said, this happened in March. If it had been anyone else other than her it wouldn’t be a story at all. And no, I don’t know her, never met her, and don’t know anyone who does so I’m not partial to her. But is it really a news story, or is it just a smear campaign? That’s the question I’m asking.

        2. When she chose to shoot the cat, she made a ‘life changing decision?’ Wrong. Her naivete in posting the picture to social media is where she messed up. Especially with the holier than thou types among us in the community, and…dare I say…in this comment thread. If you think she’s the only person that ever killed a nuisance animal, who am I to try shining light on the truth? On the topic of the DWIs, are they that rare? Especially for someone who can’t outrun their past? Some of us need more help than others, yes. Hopefully, whenever you make your next mistake someone will be there to forgive you, instead of writing you off. Good luck in life sir/ma’am.

Very well said Felis S C. This young woman has gone through a difficult period in her life and hopefully she will now get the help she needs.

      1. You know this town. There are plenty of people who read this and told all their friends and said “ha ha ha look at her”. She screwed up, twice, and I’m not defending her. But making a story out of something that happened 4 months ago, not even in Washington County? What purpose does that really serve? How many other locals have been charged with DWI somewhere else and get it covered here? And I’m not talking about public figures or officials, either, just regular citizens. How many?

        1. I hear what you’re saying, but it sounds like a conversation you ought to be having with the KWHI news team, who are conspicuously absent in this particular comment thread…

          1. Pistol Pete..,.I suggest you read the story instead of just the headline. Then you would know the story did not originate with KWHI.

    1. SPOT ON! just leave her out of the news. Maybe if they had done this to start with, it might not have led to this.

      1. We all make mistakes. They all have consequences. The issue is that she is a veterinarian! Animal lover! I am sure if she wasn’t, it probable would not have made news. I hope she learns from her mistake. We all deserve a second chance. So I wish her well. alcohol can be deadly. Stay away from it.
