FOUR BLINN VOCALISTS NAMED TO ALL-STATE CHOIR

Four Blinn College vocalists were recently named to the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) all-state choir.

Sophomores Lauren Cendalski (Brenham), Kaitlin Hudgins (Tomball), Michael Foshá (Bellville) and freshman Meaghan Kelley-Gaynor (Houston) were among 121 statewide choir members to perform in the all-state choir concert, held in conjunction with TMEA’s annual convention in San Antonio on Feb. 15.

“They are all very strong singers and are very dedicated to music and doing it well,” said Dr. Joel Plaag, Blinn choir director. “It was a great experience for them.”

The four were selected after auditioning for choir directors from regional community colleges. All four are members of the Blinn’s Camerata, the primary touring choir at Blinn, and Choral Union, the choir’s main ensemble. The Camerata will perform a free concert March 4 at the Finke Recital Hall in the C.F. Schmidt Building at 7 p.m.

The all-state choir was directed by Dr. Janet Galvan, a choir professor at Ithaca College in New York. Galvan has been named one of the nation’s best conducting teachers, and she has led national and regional choruses in venues such as Carnegie Hall and Washington, D.C.’s Constitution Hall.

The Blinn College Department of Music consistently places more of its students in the Texas Community College All-State Band than any other community college. Many students also participate in the Texas Community College All-State Choir and Jazz Ensembles. For more information, visit: www.blinn.edu/finearts/music.html.
