FOUR TO BE INDUCTED INTO CUBS FOOTBALL HALL OF HONOR

The Brenham Cubs Hall of Honor will recognize three standout Cub football players and one Brenham media member at the organization’s annual luncheon slated for Friday, October 13^th in the Blinn College Student Center.

Rick Kenjura, a leading tackler and defensive back for the 1980 Cubs; Jarrett Lee, current career yards-passing leader; and Mike Jackson, the current career tackle leader, will be enshrined in the hall of honor.

Also being honored is Charles Moser, long-time editor and publisher of the Brenham Banner-Press and a founding committee member of the Cub Hall of Honor.

The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m., and former honorees and guests are encouraged to gather in the student center beginning at 11 o’clock. The honorees will also be recognized prior to the kickoff of the Cubs game that evening.

Tickets are $25 and they are available from any member of the committee or at Brenham National Bank, Bank of Brenham, the BISD athletic office or the BISD administration office. Members of the committee are Melvin Ehlert Jr., Delbert Boeker, Val Kiecke, Charlie Matejowsky, Tommie Sullivan, Eddie Van Dyke, Jerry Newman, Jim Moser, Randy Weidemann and Glen West.

Rick Kenjura

Kenjura was a starting cornerback for the 1979 and 1980 Cub football teams. He received Honorable Mention All-District in 1979 and was named First Team All-District as a member of a 1980 team that lost only two games. One of those losses was to eventual state champion Huntsville. That team shut out six opponents that year and Kenjura was among the leaders in quarterback sacks from a defensive back position.

Kenjura was also a member of the state champion Cub track team, running a leg on the 1600-meter relay team that ran a record time of 3:15.9 seconds. He received a scholarship to play football for Blinn College, where he started at defensive back for all 20 games of his freshman and sophomore year. He transferred to Baylor University where a leg injury ended his football career.

Kenjura and his wife, Linda, are owners of Kenjura Tile and Carpeting Company, a commercial flooring company for national accounts. They have five children: Megan, Cole, Bailey, Paige and Maggie.

Jarret Lee

Jarrett Lee moved to Brenham from Brownwood with his family in 2005 when his father, Stephen Lee, took a coaching position with Glen West’s staff. He was starting quarterback for the Cubs during their 2005 and 2006 seasons. In 2005, the team went 13-1 and reached the State Semi-final game and Lee was named All State by the Associated Press and District Offensive MVP. In that campaign, Lee tossed a record six touchdown passes against district rival Waller. Later that season in the playoffs, Lee would lead the Cubs back from an 11-point deficit against first ranked La Marque. The Cubs would score 21 fourth-quarter points to win, 41-31. The following year the team garnered a 12-2 record, competing in the Regional Semi-final game. Lee was named to the All-State Team by the Texas Sports Writers Association.

He currently holds the Cub record for most passing yards in a single game with 444 yards (22 for 36 attempts) against Texas City in 2006. Lee is still currently the career passing leader for the Cubs, amassing 6,182 yards with 429 completions off of 648 attempts with 71 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

Lee continued his football career at Louisiana State University, where he played in 43 games and completed 317 of 565 passes for 3,949 yards. 32 of those passes went for touchdowns. During his time at LSU, the Tigers played in four consecutive bowl games. In 2011 the team won the Southeastern Conference Championship and lost to Alabama in the BCS Title game.

Lee currently lives in Austin where he is a project manager for Durango Doors.

Mike Jackson

Mike Jackson is a 1994 graduate of Brenham High School where he currently still holds the record for career tackles with a total of 437.  His sophomore year he earned First Team All-District, Second Team All-Brazos Valley and Cub Defense MVP honors.  His Junior year he garnered recognition receiving the First Team All-District Award, First Team All-Brazos Valley, Third Team All-State, District Defense MVP and Cub Defensive MVP Player Awards.  His Senior year, Jackson was instrumental in helping the Cubs make it to the Regional round for a bid to the State Championship and went on to receive First Team All-District , First Team All-Brazos Valley, Second Team All-State, District MVP, First Team All-District Fullback, Cub Team MVP and Second Team All-Greater Houston Awards. He finished off his senior year with a trip to the state track meet competing in the shot put.

Jackson continued his football career at Blinn College, playing on the 1995 and 1996 National Championship Teams, where they went undefeated and earned rings for two consecutive years.  As a Buccaneer, Jackson earned First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Region awards.  He then went on to complete his football career and received his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at Tarleton State University.  While at Tarleton, he earned another ring after helping lead the Texans to win the Lone Star Conference Championship.  While at Tarleton, he earned First Team All-Conference and Defensive MVP awards his junior year.  As a senior, he earned All-Conference, All Region and the Tarleton Texan Team MVP Award.

Unable to leave his football passion behind, Jackson now coaches at Foster High School in Richmond, Texas. Last year the Falcons came up one game short of vying for the state championship.  He now resides in Richmond, Texas, where he lives with his wife, Kameshe’ (Clark) Jackson. They have a daughter, Maycee, and a son, Jace Michael.

Charles Moser

Charles Moser served as editor and publisher of The Banner-Press for 40 years, retiring Jan. 1, 2010. During that time, he was an active supporter of all Brenham High School activities but had a special interest in the school’s sports activities and its football program in particular. His first newspaper job following graduation from Sam Houston State University was sports editor of The Alvin Sun.  That assignment brought him to Brenham when the Yellow Jackets, led by Nolan Ryan, played the Brenham Cubs in Fireman’s Park. After a stint of active duty with the U. S. Air Force, Moser joined The Banner-Press as managing editor for two years.  He returned to Brenham in 1970 as editor and publisher. Moser has been recognized with a life-time achievement award for his career in print media by Sam Houston State University, and he is a past president of the Texas Daily Newspaper Association and past director of Texas Press Association.

Moser has been active in civic clubs and groups in Brenham and Washington County where he currently serves as chair of the board of trustees of Blinn College and is a member of the Brenham Community Development Corporation board.  He is one of the founding committee members of the Brenham Cubs Football Hall of Honor.

His family includes his wife, Peggy, daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Jeb Poston; son and daughter-in-law Jim and Suzette Moser; and daughter and son-in-law Allison and Stuart Peck.  He has five grandchildren:  Jeremy and Emerson Peck, Zach Poston and Sarah and Charlie Moser.
