FREE HAY ANALYSIS OFFERED

The Beef and Forage Committee of Austin County is encouraging hay producers from Austin and surrounding counties to turn in a sample of their hay for analysis.

The analysis is offered free of charge for anyone that is growing or feeding hay. It gives producers useful information about the quality of the hay they are feeding to livestock. In addition, the analysis will help determine what level of supplement they may need during the winter. The test also shows the crude protein level, the level of total digestible and acid detergent fiber of the hay.

Samples can be submitted from August 8th to September 2nd at a number of locations including:

Austin County Extension Office,

Harrison’s Farm Service and Linseisen’s Feed in Bellville

Adamcik’s Farm Supply and Steinhauser’s Inc. in Sealy.

For more information on submitting a sample for analysis, contact the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Austin County at (979)865-2072 or visit www.austin.agrilife.org and click the Ask the Agent tab.
